LEGAL EXECUTIVES - Tertiary Education

Qualification Currently Available

New Zealand Law Society Legal Executive Course

Various universities and polytechnics offer the Course which students generally complete part-time over three years with two papers studied each year, usually in the following order:

  • Introduction to Legal Systems
  • Introduction to Law Office Practice
  • Property Law and Practice
  • Business Law and Practice
  • Estates Law and Practice
  • Litigation Law and Practice

The Course
The Legal Executive Course has been offered by the New Zealand Law Society, originally for those people employed in a legal firm, but more recently for anybody working, or wishing to work in a legal or quasi-legal environment. The emphasis of the Course is aimed at teaching students the skills required by a Legal Executive rather then attempting to teach Legal Executives to make decisions which should properly be made by a lawyer.
